Writer
-I didn’t have much of a writing identity prior to taking the creative writing class. I wrote casually and in my free time as a hobby. I wrote a lot of music and poetry based on dark themes.
-My writing identity now has changed a lot. I used to write dark poetry and music, but now I’ve started to show the the loving side of myself and it is evident in a lot of my writing.
-For my development, I’ve realized that I started to write more pieces inspired by my own life, as for my structure, I see it as fragmented. Instead of writing full sentences or longer sentences, I write multiple shorter sentences.
-I would describe my voice as true. I like to write honestly, because honesty is a trait I value, so I try emulating it in my writing.
-Some advice for future writer is to go back and read what you wrote in the past, because it can provide a lot of ideas and you may like something you wrote that you didn’t like at first.
-My goals and plans for the future are to write and read throughout the summer, and continue to post on my blog when I like something I write.
Blogger
-I’ve never had a blog before this class, but I feel like although I was happy with the final product there’s also a lot of things I could’ve done better.
-Some positives of my blog in my opinion are the aesthetics, I’d like to work on adding more to my sidebar and making my site look more full.
-If I have creative writing next year, I plan to use this blog for that class, but if not, then I will just continue to add to it casually.
-I plan to follow Liam and Adam’s blogs throughout the summer.
-I haven’t explored any professional bloggers.
Student
-An ‘aha’ moment for me this semester was during the writer’s seminar emulations. I wrote some of my favourite pieces during these, and it was helpful to see different writing styles.
-As a reader, I’ve developed by reading more consistently. The best book I read was probably The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe because it inspired a lot of my writing. I plan to read “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini next. It’s a novel that has been recommended to me many times, and from what I’ve heard it’s a great read that has helped students with improving their writing a lot.
-As a writer I started to write in free-verse which I fell in love with, and that has helped me get a lot of ideas on paper, which I can then turn into different types of writing. I have plans to write a short play next.
-I hope to take creative writing again, not only because I enjoy what we do in the class but also because of the environment.
-To improve as a writer I plan to read a more diverse range of novels.
Fan
–Writer’s Seminar
-I enjoyed doing Edgar Allan Poe as my writer, bu next year I hope to do a musician, because it’s very different from most novel writers and poets.
-Musicians probably interested me most.
-I learned a lot of new writing styles and I was inspired by the themes in some of the pieces we read, especially the dark themes in the Twenty One Pilots writer’s seminar.
-I want to read Khaled Hosseini and Oscar Wilde’s works this summer.
–Blogger
-I am a fan of Adam, Liam, Liza and Tolu’s blogs. I can relate to Adam’s writing, so it is very impactful and holds a special place in my heart. I love Liam’s blog not only because of the aesthetic but also because it confuses me in the best way possible. Tolu and Liza both write a lot based on their identities and that is something that I really admire.
Critic
-The title is significant because it reveals the ending and how although I was trapped on that boat all alone in the ocean, I still felt free. The section that the title refers to was probably my favourite.
-A true representation of my soul, values, and beliefs through my symbolic journey in a natural environment.
-The purpose of this piece was to show people a hidden aspect of who I am and how I think. My target audience was my new classmates.
-Our visualization activity in class was what inspired this piece.
-I decided to write my journey in fragments so that it would make more sense to the reader.
-I tried writing the whole journey as one piece but I felt it was hard to keep readers entertained that way, so I changed it.
–Diogenes: The Dog-Like Philosopher
-The title is referring to how Diogenes was often called an animal or a dog because of the things he did.
-A feature article about the many different stories of the life of the father of cynicism-Diogenes.
-My purpose for this piece was to inform about something fun and light-hearted, my target audience was again, my creative writing class.
-My inspiration came from a YouTube video I watched by Sam O’Nella Academy on Diogenes.
-One thing I attempted to add to the post after a comment was made on it was to add sarcastic comments throughout the entire piece.
-I was originally going to write about modern philosophy but for some reason when I began writing, I suddenly changed my mind and chose to write about Diogenes instead.
